Uses of By Product

The By Product of the WPS Explained:

Once the waste has been processed, the “off-take” that has been discharged is now a dry, sterile, unrecognisable material which can be known as a number of different things depending on its use. These are feedstock, flock, RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel) and SRF (Solid Recovered Fuel). This can then be sent to landfill as a sterile, safe material with up to 80% volume reduction and up to 70% weight reduction or alternatively, depending on what type of waste has been processed, can be used as a saleable fuel including:
  • Co-combustion energy generation
  • Fuel in the cement kiln industry
  • Fertilizer
  • Manufacture of construction board
  • Gasification & pyrolysis plants

For example, the company Nu-Rock, who we are working alongside can use the off-take as feedstock in the manufacturing of their blocks, bricks and pavers.

If the off-take if not used immediately, it can be stored safely for more than 12 months. Further waste volume reduction can also be achieved by densifying (briquetting, compaction, pelletizing) the loose off-take as shown in the picture.
